Just because your shower water seemingly flows down the drain with no issue doesn’t mean the pipes are all clear. Hand soap may be a convenient cleaning option in a pinch, but depending on what type of fixtures you have it may be doing more harm than good.  Only gentle cleaning solutions, such as lemons and baking soda, should be used on brass fixtures.
